Update (3:03 p.m. ET, 12/18/2020): Cyberpunk 2077 refund options continue to grow for disappointed players. In addition to both Sony and Microsoft loosening their refund policies, Best Buy and even CD Projekt itself have promised to make things right for customers.

According to a Best Buy social media specialist, the retailer will refund physical copies of Cyberpunk 2077 in-store or via mail through December 21 (which also happens to be the release date of a major patch), even if the game has been opened. This also includes the Collector’s Edition, but players will also need to return all the extras that came with it.

Furthermore, Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt has put out an additional statement promising to provide refunds to players who aren’t able to secure one through the store where they purchased the game.

“[O]ur intention is for every owner of a physical copy, or a digital copy bought at retail, who has valid proof of purchase […] to receive a refund,” the statement reads. “We will do this out of our own pocket if necessary.”

Like Best Buy, CD Projekt also stipulates that players need to contact the company through its unique support email before the December 21 patch in order to be made whole.

Kotaku has also contacted GameStop, Target, and Walmart about any potential adjustments to their own return policies in regard to Cyberpunk 2077, and will update this story as further information comes in.

The original story continues below.

Microsoft has expanded its refund policy for players who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 digitally, guaranteeing money back for the notoriously broken CD Projekt game.

“We know the developers at CD Projekt Red have worked hard to ship Cyberpunk in extremely challenging circumstances,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Kotaku. “However, we also realize that some players have been unhappy with the current experience on older consoles. To date, we have granted refunds to the vast majority of customers who have requested one. To ensure that every player is able to get the experience they expect on Xbox, we will be expanding our existing refund policy to offer full refunds to anyone who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 digitally from the Microsoft Store, until further notice.”

Microsoft is directing those looking to refund Cyberpunk 2077 to its refund request page but has yet to pull the game from the Microsoft Store. It’s unclear if they will. We’ve asked.
